Coal Tote Bag – Black Canvas
Style and construction
First developed to transport coal to and from dwellings in the early 20th century, and then redeveloped by the US military, the coal bag was later adopted by American lineworkers for its utilitarian function and lasting performance.
The Maryon Mfg. black canvas coal tote reinterprets this enduring style for the present day. Built from stiff 16oz cotton canvas, it features an extra wide, reinforced gusset, 12 copper saddlers rivets at stress points, and an external pocket for convenience.
The creation of each tote is labour-intensive—no shortcuts are made during the build and the construction has been kept as true as possible to the originals.
Each bag is individually cut and sewn by hand on a 1950 Singer machine, with careful attention paid to every stage of construction.
Generously sized and perfect for weekend getaways, grocery shops or everyday carry.
Built to last and improve with age and wear.
